You realize that your gum is bleeding excessively and would not stop doing that. Well, do not worry. Bleeding gums after molar extraction is actually a pretty common case. Continue reading this article if you want to find out the steps that can be done after you found out that your gums are still bleeding after a molar extraction procedure.

The first thing that you need to do is to relax. This is because it is common and will usually do no harm to you. Then you need to find what is the cause for the bleeding. If the cause can be easily found, you need to find a way on how to solve the issue. This can be done by yourself if you are capable of it or you can always refer your dentist for help. However, if you cannot find any cause and want to try to fix it yourself, you can follow these steps below. Remember to let it bleed for 24 hours first before trying any of these steps. However, if the bleeding still persists, you need to meet your dentist as soon as possible because it can be down to a more serious problem.

  1. Elevate your head

The blood moves faster from the lower part of your body towards your head if your head position is lower than your body. Due to this mechanism, it is recommended for you to always elevate your head and this action will restrict the blood from going toward your gums excessively. You can try to elevate your head by doubling your pillow during your sleep. You might also want to avoid any activities that might put your head lower than your body.

  1. Apply a wet gauzed at the bleeding site

This is the most common method that people usually do. Firstly, you need to identify the source of bleeding. Once you have found it, you can find a wet gauze and apply it at the site. Make sure that the gauze is clean in order to avoid any infection. You also need to apply some pressure on the gauze with your teeth. Try doing this for at least 45 minutes and you will find out that the bleeding might stop.

  1. Take a lot of rest

After a dental procedure, it is advisable to rest a lot because your body and mind have endured a lot of pain during the procedure. Besides, resting your body is actually good for your recovery. It can help the body to clot the bleeding faster than usual. If needed, you need to inform your superior that you might need to take a leave in order to recover from this bleeding issue.

  1. Eat wisely

A lot of people think that a dental procedure is nothing to be scared of. However, choosing what you eat blindly might be the cause for your excessive bleeding. You need to avoid eating foods or drinks that can interfere with the clotting process. The examples of bad foods and drinks include soda drinks, sticky foods, beverages and also junk foods which are not healthy.
